18 years ago, Anna decided to embark on a new adventure and move to Edinburgh, Scotland. She said: “I love showing others the wild coastlines and quiet forests just beyond the city.”
This is one of the reasons people choose to live in Scotland, for our stunning landscapes and the proximity to nature, even from the heart of our cities: “You don’t have to travel far to feel far away. Living in Edinburgh is a gift; there are always hidden gems to uncover, and I love sharing these secret spots with both locals and visitors”, Anna added
In 2018, Anna started her own business, WanderWomen, to share her love of nature. She said: “Growing up in East Germany, nature was always our escape. Today it helps me disconnect from the noise and pace of modern life”.
“WanderWomen began as a way to reconnect women with nature, themselves, and each other. The benefits - for body, mind, and spirit are profound”, Anna explained. WanderWomen has since expanded into working with mixed corporate, community and private groups too.
Anna reveals that owning her own business hasn’t always been easy. “The road hasn’t been smooth - my social account was hacked, and self-doubt is a frequent companion. But nature reminds me: things unfold in their own time. Setbacks aren’t failures; they’re part of the path”.
“I’m proud of what I’ve created with WanderWomen - not just the experiences themselves, but the way the business has been shaped by challenges and resilience”, Anna explained.
The support from Anna’s community has played a vital role in overcoming these challenges. “Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to build a wonderful network of supporters - from those in similar situations, to loyal customers, to people cheering WanderWomen on from the sidelines”, she said.
Anna believes in the benefits of disconnecting from your technology, and the power of enjoying real-life experiences together: “In a world that’s increasingly digital, it’s those real, human connections that keep me going. The people who believe in this mission and bring the true magic. The women who say a walk changed their lives”.
“That’s the heart of it all - and the reason I’m so proud of what we’ve built with WanderWomen. There’s nothing more rewarding than knowing you’ve made a real impact - nothing else can match that.”
