The School of Engineering & the Built Environment earned a prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2015, after previous success in 2009. Edinburgh Napier's BEng (Hons) Cybersecurity and Forensics is the first undergraduate course in the UK to be fully certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), whose parent organisation is GCHQ.

Edinburgh Napier are committed to providing the best possible teaching to their students. In 2015, they were awarded five stars for teaching in the QS Stars international university rankings. The 2019 National Student Survey (NSS), which rates final year students’ satisfaction with their university and course, saw four of Edinburgh Napier's subjects in the UK top 10 and seven subjects with 90%+ satisfaction. Research

Edinburgh Napier's academics excel in their fields. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), more than half of their research was rated ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. Researchers here are working on projects that include improving the design of shelters for refugees, assessing and improving conservation and restoration of tropical mangrove, and developing technology to enable the evolution of robots without the need for direct human oversight. In short, they're carrying out innovative research that changes lives across the world.
