What is The World Pipe Band Championships?
The World Pipe Band Championships, also known as ‘the Worlds’, celebrates the best pipe bands from around the globe. 8000 pipers and drummers compete for the ultimate title of World Pipe Band Champions.
In 1947, the first World Pipe Band Championships took place in Edinburgh and the first event in Glasgow was hosted the following year. Today, the Worlds often attracts performances from over 200 pipe bands from more than 15 countries.
Each year, the World Pipe Band Championships takes place at Glasgow Green and offers an opportunity to soak up the incredible sounds and unforgettable atmosphere. Set in the heart of the city, the Worlds also provides a chance to explore Glasgow’s cultural attractions, rich heritage and vibrant music scene.

When is The World Pipe Band Championships?
The World Pipe Band Championships typically takes place on the second Saturday in August. In 2026, the World Pipe Band Championships will take place 14 to 15 August at Glasgow Green.
