What is Glasgow Film Festival?

A fun, friendly, unmissable event, Glasgow Film Festival is for people who love film and has won the hearts of film fans from across the globe delivering an unrivalled breadth of programme and a warm welcome to all. 

The festival takes place at Glasgow Film Theatre and in various venues across the city and the UK. It is known for being an essential annual meeting place for the screen industry. 

The first festival took place in 2005 with just 6,000 attendees. Today, the festival has transformed into an international event which continues to grow and develop its reputation as a key launch pad for films and filmmakers at every stage of their career. 

Stars including James McAvoy, Ed Harris and Jessica Lange attended the most recent edition of Glasgow Film Festival. The 2025 event included 9 World premieres, 2 European premieres, 66 UK premieres and 10 Scottish premieres from 39 countries.

When is Glasgow Film Festival? 

Glasgow Film Festival takes place each year in February and March and runs for 12 days. In 2026, Glasgow Film Festival will celebrate its 22nd edition from 25 February – 8 March 2026 with the usual programme packed with premieres, special events and guests sharing stories that entertain and inspire in the best way possible: together in the cinema.
