We want to welcome every baby born in Scotland by giving them their own Baby Box.

The Baby Box helps families prepare for the arrival of their baby. New babies need a surprising amount of stuff! Scotland’s Baby Box is packed full of clothes, bedding and lots of other useful things to help give your baby the best possible start in life. The Box also provides a safe and comfy place for your wee one to sleep. It comes complete with a mattress and bedding that fits perfectly.

Scotland’s Baby Box ensures that every family with a new-born has access to essential items needed in the first six months of a child’s life.

What’s inside the Baby Box?

Inside each box you will find everything from baby clothes, a blanket, a bath towel and a baby wrap, to toys, bibs, a digital underarm thermometer and nursing pads. The Baby Box balances practical items with items designed to have a positive impact on parent-child interaction and encourage play opportunities for children from a very early age, such as a play mat and two books.

Various items of the Baby Box are designed to help new parents bond with their baby which helps in early childhood development.

Each Baby Box also includes a booklet with information that helps to increase income, improve mental health and support parents during the first few months of their child’s life.

The outside of the box also features a decorative illustration which older siblings can colour in with parents, making them feel part of things when the baby arrives.

The Box itself can also be used as a handy place to store baby items before they're born and as a memory box or a place to store toys once babies are too big to sleep in it. This ensures that the box continues to have a use long after the baby outgrows it!

Since the start of the programme more than 341,000 Baby Boxes have been delivered to families across Scotland.
