Lauran Halpin moved to Scotland from Miami to study at the University of Edinburgh. Lauran now works for Baillie Gifford in Scotland's financial services industry.

Obinna Ugboaja, Nigeria

Obinna Ugboaja moved from Nigeria to Scotland to study at Aberdeen University. He now works as a Safety Engineer with Aker Solutions.

Obinna said: "I thought the UK would be the best place to study, but only Aberdeen University offered me the course I was looking for.

"While I have made Scottish friends, there is also a sizeable Nigerian community here thanks to initiatives encouraging people to stay and work in Scotland after their studies. There are shops where you can buy African ingredients so we can still cook a lot of African dishes - that's why I don't feel far away from home by living in Scotland."

Hidenori Meiseki, Japan

Hidenori Meiseki’s career with BioReliance, one of the world’s leading contract services organisations for the biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical industries, has taken him from the US, back to his homeland in Japan, and more recently to Scotland, where he is a project manager at the company’s Glasgow operations.

Hidenori said: " I like Glasgow because it is a relatively small city, which is easy to get around – not like Tokyo, which was too big and busy for us, especially for our son.

"It’s a great environment to live in, the people are nice and there is a good work-life balance."
