St. Andrew's Day Glasgow

Shindig in the Square

George Square

Friday 30th November, 4.00pm – 10.00pm

There's no better place to celebrate St Andrew's Day than George Square! Whether you're a fan of the Dashing White Sergeant or Strip the Willow, join in the fun and swing your sporran at our Shindig in the Square!

George Square will be transformed into a sea of Saltires as Glasgow celebrates the patron Saint of Scotland with a customary ceilidh featuring performances by some of the country's best live ceilidh bands.

Glasgow welcomes THE VATERSAY BOYS from Barra for our St Andrew's Day celebrations.
"Over the past 6 years The Vatersay Boys have been creating a stir of madness and mayhem throughout the Western Isles and much further afield. Hailing from the Island of Vatersay, the most southerly populated isle of the Outer Hebrides with a rising population of under 100, The Vatersay Boys are now well and truly established in the Celtic and Gaidhealtachd music scene. This high-spirited Gaelic dance music group fronted by Michael Campbell of Vatersay (accordion) and Donnie MacNeil of Barra (drums) have gathered a fan-base for their rough, raw, no nonsense set of ceilidh dances which has seen them play to sell-out gigs in the Barrowlands in Glasgow."

THE PICTS
Formed in February 1997, The Picts have quickly become one of the most popular live bands on the folk rock and concert scene. They have reached out with their unique brand of Celtic Rock and captivated hundreds of audiences both at home and abroad. There is a considerable influence of original material combined with the traditional. The sets are upbeat and irresistible for dancing. The songs (both original and traditional) are powerful and rocky, yet retain their original sentiment, feeling and intimacy.
