Call for budding Spielbergs as more films set to be produced in Scotland
Major productions such as World War Z, Cloud Atlas and Under The Skin – with leads from A-list stars Brad Pitt, Halle Berry and Scarlett Johansson - have all been shot at Scottish locations over the past few months.
According to the director of industry body Creative Skillset, this is good news for budding Scottish Spielbergs as job opportunities will increase "over the next three to five years".
Alasdair Smith said: "With the increase in film, TV and advertising productions in Glasgow and with 2012 being the Year of Creative Scotland, it is timely to highlight that the opportunities available in this sector will continue to grow.
"It makes it a very attractive option for those currently considering their future career."
Mr Smith's comments come as Glasgow Film Office prepares to celebrate 15 successful years this weekend.
The work of GFO has boosted Glasgow’s economy by over £200m through activity generated by film, broadcast and advertising productions locating in the city.
As well as the GFO supporting the production of British films and large scale international productions in Glasgow, the BBC has committed to increasing network TV production in Scotland to 9% – in line with its proportion of UK population – by 2016 and this will have an effect on the growth of the sector.
Mr Smith added: "As well as TV production, behind the scenes roles in theatre and music performance are also real growth sectors. And many roles, such as a live events producer, can work across a number of industries."
