Whisky tots up £3.5 billion

THE Scotch whisky industry raked in almost £3.5 billion last year as worldwide exports hit a record high.

Growing demand in the Far East and Africa drove exports up by 10 per cent, generating £109 every second for the economy.

More than a billion bottles of Scotch left the country, with the US spending almost £500 million.
