With stunning views, a full programme and new homecoming-themed event, this year’s Arisaig Highland Games have plenty to keep visitors entertained, writes Susan Welsh

As far as picturesque locations go, Arisaig Highland Games ticks all the boxes. The games, which always take place on the last Wednesday in July, are held on land surrounding Traigh Farm in Arisaig, a location which enjoys sweeping views across sandy beaches towards the dramatic Cuillins of Skye and the islands of Eigg and Rum.

Now in its 74th year, the games and sixth Clan Ranald Gathering have stepped up a notch in terms of entertainment and money as organisers have struck a significant deal with The Glenlivet Whisky, which will sponsor the piping competition.

The move means some of the biggest prizes in piping in the west Highlands will be on offer, which in turn will increase the number of pipers taking part and provide a bigger celebration for visitors.
