Scotch on the rocks
SDI
Cases of whisky and brandy buried in Antarctica for over 100 years have been recovered.
Scotland’s food and drink industry is celebrating a very rare find - five crates of Scotch whisky and brandy that have spent more than 100 years buried in the Antarctic ice.
The provisions belonged to explorer Ernest Shackleton and were stored beneath his Antarctic hut, which was built in 1908 for a failed South Pole expedition.
The crates were first discovered three years ago and their removal from the ice is causing great excitement amongst drink production firms in Scotland.
