Parade marks special Pope visit

A major parade to mark the Pope’s visit next month was today launched by the head of the Catholic church in Scotland.

Cardinal Keith O’Brien said St Ninian’s Day parade would be a “national celebration” to mark the Pope being in Edinburgh as part of his UK visit.

The Pope will be in the capital on September 16 – St Ninian’s Day – where he will meet the Queen at Holyroodhouse.

Marie Curie Cancer Care and Mary’s Meals will be the official charities to benefit.
