India partners with Edinburgh Festival

India will become a major partner of the Edinburgh International Festival 2012, spending millions of pounds in the city from the London Olympics to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, the had of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations has said.
Suresh Goel, the head of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be in Edinburgh in August, supporting two shows this year. But he said shows representing the 'entire spectrum' of Indian culture, from Bollywood to literature, will be represented from next year.
"There will be a major Indian presence at the Edinburgh Festival in all possible settings, through books to all kinds of events," he said.
"From new year we are a major partner country, and will be looking for a partnership with Edinburgh through the Commonwealth Games.
He will also sign a memorandum of understanding with Edinburgh University to establish a chair of Indian studies there, he revealed.
