Glasgow Caledonian University to offer courses in London
Glasgow Caledonian University
Glasgow Caledonian University has announced plans to establish an outreach centre in London, making it the first Scottish university to offer an English base.
GCU London will deliver a range of the university's specialist postgraduate courses and CPD training programmes to a predominantly international market based in the city from September 2010.
The university's innovative approach to growth at a time of funding cuts across the sector shows the confidence and entrepreneurial drive for which GCU has become known.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies said:
“Research indicates a demand for specialist postgraduate level courses not currently offered in London, and we believe that, because of our high number of professionally accredited postgraduate courses, we are the right institution to meet this need
“GCU London will enable us to enhance our university's profile and allow us to compete successfully in the global educational market. We intend to offer a suite of specialist postgraduate programmes in the areas of business, finance and risk, retailing, construction, and health from high quality premises in the heart of the city.
“The London centre will also provide the university a base to engage in partnerships to further develop its award-winning Business Academies which offer bespoke CPD and specialist qualifications to a number of high profile multinational companies.
“GCU London is supported by our Students Association and as a university we are excited by the opportunities such an outreach centre will bring to students and staff. We believe that GCU London is well placed to succeed given our strong track record with an existing outreach college in Oman and our more recent international activities in China.
“We are an ambitious university and I firmly believe that in these difficult financial times we must be innovative and entrepreneurial in order to continue to invest in our strengths and prosper in the future to deliver our mission of access and excellence in higher education”.
