Glasgow-based author named Children's Laureate

Gruffalo writer Julia Donaldson is Britain's new Children's Laureate.

Julia, 62, who lives in Bearsden near Glasgow, received the honour yesterday at a ceremony in London.

She said she would use the award - given every two years to an outstanding children's writer - to help encourage kids to enjoy reading and promote sign language stories for deaf youngsters.
