Castle Stuart confirmed as Scottish Open venue

The Scottish Open will return to Castle Stuart near Inverness next year, with the European Tour.
There had been fears that the event could lose its slot on the calendar, but the 2012 edition will retain its traditional date. It will be staged from 12-15 July, the week before the Open Championship.
Barclays ended their ten-year association with the tournament after this year’s event, which was won by world No 1 Luke Donald, and the European Tour continues to seek a sponsor. But the Tour’s stop-gap backing protects its status and could leave the door open for a possible move to Donald Trump’s new course at the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire.
The tournament was moved to Castle Stuart this year in a three-year deal, and Trump is aiming to hold a major event at his course by 2014. Trump’s course opens next year, but will not be ready to host a major tournament until 2014.
