Billy Connolly named most influential stand-up comic of all time
The Metro
These days Billy Connolly may be more well-known for globe-trotting TV programmes and a dyed beard than edgy humour – but The Big Yin has been named Britain’s most influential stand-up comic of all time.
The 69-year-old comedian, actor and musician saw off competition from Morecambe and Wise, Victoria Wood, Peter Cook, Eddy Izzard and Ben Elton to take the title.
Glasgow-born Connolly, who has been on stage since the 1960s, was shortlisted by 100 comics in the poll that was voted on by the public.
