TalentScotland helps you find the Scotland that is right for you
Want to know what Scotland is like? Ask the people who know.
Lynn Lau from Singapore is Head of Standard Life’s Asia Pacific Development Team. An accountant, she trained in London before her plastic surgeon husband, Lennard, decided to move to Glasgow.
“I was pleasantly surprised when we moved to Glasgow: the people are very friendly, there are nice neighbourhoods, lovely parks and the architecture of the city is wonderful. We’ve since moved to Edinburgh and love it. It has everything that London has, but without the downsides. Everything is much more accessible and we can escape to the countryside in no time,” Lynn says.
Arnaud Ete from Marseille works in the renewables sector with SgurrEnergy but still finds time to sample the cultural and sporting life of Glasgow.
“I would never get this opportunity in France as the renewable energy sector is still relatively small, so Scotland is the place to be. My real love is sports – especially football – so Glasgow is great as everyone is football mad.”
TalentScotland has a new website aimed at people interested in studying in Scotland or following in the footsteps of Lynn and Arnaud.
Life Sciences is a sector with hundreds of companies and 31,000 people working in it, including Europe’s largest stem cell research community.
In Energy, Scotland has 25 per cent of Europe’s wind, wave and tidal energy waiting to be harnessed and offers an ocean of opportunity to international engineers with the right skills.
The Scottish Financial Services industry is a global leader in banking and investment while the technology sector attracts the best brains in microelectronics, games and wireless communications.
TalentScotland has now brought employment opportunities, relocation guidance and Graduate Placement information together in one place.
Whether you are a non-EU resident seeking an opening in a research field or an international company looking for a home, it is the central meeting point for both individuals and potential employers.
If you need VISA information, want to rent a house in Edinburgh, find a school for your children in Inverness, or if it’s just to find out if you can bring your pet with you, everything you need to know is here.
It is not just people with experience who can find skilled work through TalentScotland. A new, improved Graduate Placement Programme aims to match 250 graduates with Scottish companies every year for the next three years. Paid placements range from three to twelve months.
