Arts & culture festivals
In the summer months the Scots really enjoy themselves. From huge music festivals, with some of the world’s biggest bands, to comedy, arts and book festivals there’s always something going on somewhere in Scotland during the hottest months of the year.
Here are a selection of Scotland’s arts and culture festivals which showcase an eclectic mix of global talent.
Scottish arts and heritage festivals
West End festival: Glasgow
3 – 26 June
Glasgow’s biggest festival returns this year with over 600 events ranging from classical and choral music, folk, rock, jazz, theatre, and dance, with the famous Festival Sunday (the Opening Parade) kicking off the event.
St Magnus festival: Orkney
17 – 22 June
The St Magnus Festival is an annual 6-day arts festival which takes place on the islands of Orkney. The unique combination of world-class performance, community participation of the highest quality and the magic of Orkney at midsummer attracts audiences from afar.
Edinburgh Art festival: Edinburgh
4 August – 4 September
Edinburgh’s galleries, museums and visual art spaces present the most exciting and intriguing of the modern and contemporary visual arts world. See prize winners, agent provocateurs, world premiers, old masters and the next big thing all encompassed in one festival.
Edinburgh Festival Fringe: Edinburgh
5 – 25 August
The world’s largest arts festival with over 32,000 performances and over 2000 shows packed into 250 venues across the city. From big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers, the festival caters for everyone and includes theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, musicals, operas, music, exhibitions and events, it’s not to be missed!
Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo: Edinburgh
5 – 27 August
A tremendous outdoor spectacle, the Tattoo presents a host of performers, military and civilian, set against the back drop of Edinburgh castle.
