Welly Throwing
Come along to a Highland Games and you'll find a lot of throwing and lifting events. This is a fun event to get everyone warmed up. All you need is a Wellington boot that isn't too big for the youngest competitor to handle with confidence. Create a line for everyone to take turns launching the wellie from, if you’re on the beach it can be a line drawn in the sand, on grass a length of rope makes a good marker. A spare t-shirt, jumper, stick or stone makes a good indicator for each competitors longest throw - you can either make the mark where the wellington lands first or where it finally comes to rest. It doesn't matter as long as you are consistent. Have three goes each (or more if you are still having fun!) and the winner (if you need one) is the competitor whose marker is farthest from the line!
Once you've enjoyed our play-at-home Highland Games why not see the real events held around Scotland and the world. Most events will include the old favourites like Tossing the Caber alongside music, dancing and great food.
